SWING SPEED:
How many of us are so content, just being out there, with our buddies at the beginning of the round, that we are swinging smooth without a thought in the world of hitting it hard. Then we unconsciously start swinging a little harder as the round goes on, triing to get a little extra out of the shot. Then when you realize it after a few holes, it is not so easy to slow the swing back down to where it was at the beginning of the round. This is where you need to take your thoughts back and feel those first couple of tee shots that day.It is almost like you need to tell yourself "I paid "X" mount of $$ for these clubs". Why am i swinging so hard with them.I need to let the clubs do the magic. I just need to get the club face to the ball, at a "comfortable" speed. This is where you need to trust those clubs in your bag.Remember, that is why you bought them. When these times come, say you notice it at the fifth hole. One way to get your swing to the speed of the first three holes, is "golf by numbers". What I mean by that, is let say the ifith hole is 400 yds.So what I would do is say to myself, 3-wood IS 225-235 yds. That would leave me with 165-175 yds. to the dance floor, not a problem there. Sure you would like to hit your driver that 250-260 or more tee shot, but remember, you were having swing speed problems, so instead of being stuborn and wasting 2-3 more holes with errant tee shots. We go with a couple of holes of "play by the numbers". Now after a few holes of this, your confidence will be back, along with your normal swing speed. Now you could go back to the driver, but take a look at the score card and see how the up coming holes are laid out.Maybe you continue with the "play by the numbers" strategy. One of by best rounds was played with mostly by 3-wood off the tee.I had to hit more mid irons, but it was a tight course and I didn't have the confidence off most the tees, at the time to hit a driver. You know what they say, your first club choice is mostly likely the right club choice. |
