   The vacationing hot spot in the Blue Ridge Mountains,as well as a marketing & industrial city.Best of both worlds.Ashevile is a the city closest to the "Great Smoky Mountains National Park".This attracts many of the parks visitors with its annual mountain fetes,local handicrafts, & summer theaters.Asheville is the headquarters for the Uwharrie National Forest,Pisgah National Forest,Nantahala National Forest & Croatan National Forest.
    Asheville is the home of the beautiful "Biltmore Estate", south of town.The 8,000-acre country estate includes 75 acres of formal gardens,numerous varieties of azaleas & roses & ofcourse the 250 room chateau.85 rooms are open for viewing,which is the largest house ever built in the New World.Materials & furnishings were brought from many parts of Europe & Asia.A private railroad was built to transport them to the site.
    The "Biltmore Homespun Shops" showing "hand-dyeing,spinning & hand weaving wool into cloth.The business still has the old machinery & handlooms.An antique automobile museum & the North Carolina Homespun Museum are on a 11-acre park next to the Grove Park Inn Resort.
   The most notorious landmark in Asheville is the house where the famous novelist Thomas Wolfe grew up.The house remains preserved true to its description in Wolfe's most famous novel,Look Homeward,Angel.
